New resort in Alor !

2015 is an exciting new season for diving in Alor!

10 years ago, when we (Gilles and Neya) decided to settle in Alor we were hesitating between few locations in Pantar Strait. Finally the opportunity of living on a remote sandy beach with preserved house reef looked like a perfect fit for what we wanted professionally and personally. We settled in Pantar, built Alor Divers and gave life to our beautiful girls Maliana and Lyvie. Our little corner flourished as Alor region in general got increasing number of visitor and divers with each passing year. Furthermore  muck diving became very popular in a diving world and Alor has some great muck to offer.  We saw an opportunity and started to play with the idea of building an additional resort on a different location in Alor. It eventually became clear to us we couldn’t to do it on our own if we wanted to offer personalized and professional service we give at Alor Divers. We looked for partners for a new “adventure” and  decided together with our friends Max and Lauren for a partnership  in setting up a new resort in Kalabahi Bay near great muck diving sites.

Creating Alami Alor Dive Resort took over a year of joined efforts and we are happy to announce that it will be open for guests starting 5 April, 2015! While we (Gilles and Neya) contributed our experience of working, living and diving in Alor, Max and Lauren did excellent work with designing and constructing the new resort. They are also resort managers and will take care of everything above and below sea level to ensure Alami Alor’s guests have a memorable stay!

Between Alor Divers located in the strait and Alami Alor in the bay, there is a choice of accommodation and diving experiences to suite a variety of expectations for a dive holiday in the Alor Archipelago. Even though the resorts are two separated establishments, we would like to offer for 2015 a special promotional discount for a combination package at the 2 resorts. Book a 6 night package at Alor Divers plus a 6 night package at the new Alami Alor Dive Resort and receive 10% discount on both stays plus 1 extra night free for a total of 13 nights in Alor.

Alor Divers house reef photo gallery

Our house reef is offering some really nice diving, even excellent when conditions are right! 10 years ago, when we were looking to settle in Alor, we felt lucky to be able to realize our dream plan on a superb land location with fringing reef in such a great condition. With this quality of diving right on doorstep we could offer our guests unlimited diving. And because such a good diving on our house reef comes as a great surprise to many of our divers, we [finally ] put together the best photos taken exclusively on our house reef and you can see them here: Alor Divers house reef gallery

What's up with Alor Divers?

Has it really been that long since our last post?!? We were super busy since July until just recently. Now everything is pacing down and we realized we completely neglected blogging : /. We had a lot of great news that we unfortunately didn't share with you on time, but nevertheless here are the two most important ones and the rest of them will follow shortly (if you are in a hurry just scan thru text in bold ;) :

  • New couple - Ben (English) and Bea (Spanish) - are this year helping managing the resort. They went through 4 months of "intensive training" and are now mastering their position. They are young, dynamic, professional and very outgoing with the guests. They are also great dive masters and - especially Bea - very passionate about marine life. It is delight talking with her on this topic :-) After meeting them for the interview, we knew they would be a great addition to our AD team. The comments of our guests about Ben and Bea are excellent, so what more could we wish for :-) . We are grateful for all the efforts they put in their work and are happy to be working with them in 2015 !
  • Diving-vise we have another thrilling year behind us. The top unexpected surprise was certainly for Ben, when he encountered a whale shark on the house reef, while working on the anchorage ropes! Also on the house reef, some divers saw baby black tips and others saws Mobula rays. Our house reef is offering some really good diving, even superb when conditions are right! We noticed the amount of fish in Alor is going up. The colors and condition of reefs are remarkable and one of the main attractions for our returning guests. All of the favorite dive sites (and it is a lot of them !! ;)) delivered what we expected (not every single time though, but this is how nature planed it :P) Hammerheads were almost a regular this year. Some divers had extreme luck of seeing large schools and some divers had an excitement of  a pretty close encounter! Rhinophias were abundant as were also other critters in Kalabahi Bay dives (again - not every single time :P). Nudies come and go and at the moments is nudi's  party underwater. Soon we will put online Gilles's best of 2014 UW photos, but you can already check out some of the UW photos on our Facebook page (click here https://www.facebook.com/alor.divers)

Coming back soon with some more "old and not so old " news ..

Till then many greetings from Alor Divers team!
